Michigan
A family job with a company at K.I. Sawyer Industrial Park brought me to the U.P. in 2012. I fell in love with the Upper Peninsula during that summer, commuting from our farm in Mosinee, Wisconsin to attend festivals, hiking waterfalls, taking in sights and meeting new friends; more as a tourist in MI, not a land or homeowner. We were members of the Lake to Lake Bed and Breakfast Association in Michigan and in 2013, our family purchased property in the rolling countryside of Sands Township. Then 'life happened' involving a fraudulent real estate transaction of a State Inspected Adult Foster Care house. This "Nightmare" https://abc10up.com/2016/12/13/from-dream-house-to-living-nightmare/ exposed government shortcomings (a fraction of the story) in local and state government at their worst. You might say I lost a few years of life, but I didn't lose my life. When I thought things couldn't get worse, they did, and I decided to leave private life to make a difference. I tried competing in 2016 for the 109th District State Representative Seat, and found out just how broken the process was and lost in the primary. The following web site is the house sale following the loss of my family. Both sales of the house in 2013 & 2016; the realtors were the only winners. https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/156-Miller-Rd_Gwinn_MI_49841_M30004-05833#photo0
Here's a Bible lesson I came across in 2017 while taking some time to forgive and allow my broken heart to heal. "Trials in this life will expose what is in your heart-whether the offense is toward God or others. Tests either make you bitter toward God and your peers or stronger. If you pass the test, your roots will shoot down deeper, stabilizing you and your future. If you fail, you will become offended, which can lead to defilement with bitterness".
During 2017 I visited memorials in Washington, D.C. Sept 11th, my first trip to our country's capital. I contemplated returning to Florida to pursue a career and prayed about what I should do with what I had left of the life I worked so hard for. While contemplating a 2018 bid for State Representative, a friend asked me to help drive to Fort Hood, Texas to visit her son before he was deployed. Never in my wildest dreams did I think "Another Nightmare of Mold", but there it was! Our current administration had approved financing to renovate a severe mold contamination in Fort Hood, Texas that was left go for years. http://www.kxxv.com/story/36203554/fort-hood-receives-45-million-for-barrack-renovations http://www.kwtx.com/content/news/Fort-Hood--Work-continues-on-295-million-in-post-projects-468885273.html As I helped clean her son's bathroom of "mold" from infested vented rooms in the Fort Hood barracks, I realized I had to step up to the plate again to compete for the 109th district seat.
Education is greatly needed into the dark "Mold" confusing world of improper housing in the U.P. where unlicensed home inspectors and unregulated, unethical, repair personnel operate freely and entities overlook the obvious. These business habits were exasperated during the "Energy Crisis of the 70's" and continue as our Utilities are the most expensive in the Continental U.S. Improper construction and uneducated remodeling and remediation efforts make for unhealthy IAQ "Indoor Air Quality" in homes, schools, and buildings which effect our health. This is especially true for our children, elderly, disabled and those with compromised immune systems who spend more hours indoors, especially in our harsh winters.
I came across this message Easter, April 1, 2018 and it confirmed what I sensed in Fort Hood, TX.
"Our lives are of unspeakable value to God. We are precious to Him. Let's settle that matter so an overdeveloped preciousness to self does not end up protecting us from our own divine purpose. We don't have long here. We don't have time to waste on infighting, foolishness, and fear. We don't have months to drum up the approval of all our peers. We don't have years to keep procrastinating. Let's not just plan to do what it takes, Let's do what it takes. The joy of the Lord, my friend, is our strength".
An Upper Peninsula Christian friend posted an Easter lesson which I read later that night. Here's an excerpt of a Biblical message he wrote. 'Were the whole realm of nature mine, that'd be a present far too small; love so amazing, so divine, demands my life, my soul, my all.' "Don't love or believe in Jesus casually today! Seek out His truth. He is risen! Lord Jesus come quickly! And Lord, bring a revival and Lord let it begin with me". This also confirmed in my spirit, the urgency to compete again and represent all the folks, especially those who haven't had a voice in the 109th District of the U.P. of Michigan.
2017 was the first time in 26 years that I didn't preserve produce from a garden on my property I worked and sweated to own. I love gardening and know in the worst of times, and especially during the winter months, there is nothing better than to open your homemade canned goods, freezer fruit and vegetables, or cut open squash from the garden that you planted and harvested; prepare a meal and serve it to your family. I love hearing about communities coming together, helping each other plant and sharing great gardening tips to embrace the bountiful harvest that can be enjoyed by all.
This, my friend, is true unity.
